Excellent Book! July 20, 2010 NewMommy I'm seeing a lot of reviews that seem to give this book a bad rep. If these people had bothered to read the intro to the book they would have found loads of information from the author explaining about food allergies and that certain ingredients should be used only for older babies. If your child is prone to allergies then have the commen sense to avoid those types of food. But if you've gotten the green light from your pediatrician then you're all set to try these great recipes. My son is just turning 6 months old and our pediatrician encouraged us to start slowly with solids around 4.5 months. But my son hated all of the boring rice cereals and baby oatmeals that are typical first foods. So I tried making some of the more basic fruit and veggie purees from this book. My son LOVES them. He is already showing an appreciation for all sorts of fruits and vegetables and will hopefully continue to do so when we introduce him to some of the more complex recipes in this book. I've taste tested everything I've given him and these recipes are a vast improvement over the store-bought baby foods. They're yummier, they're healthier and they cost so much less to make.
Love this! July 18, 2010 Sam's Mom I love the fact that this book also includes information about introducing solids, not just the recipes. So far my little man likes everything but the sweet potatoes with broccoli.
Excellent Little Resource July 12, 2010 E. M. Young (Malden, MA United States) this is a cute little book full of helpful info and recipes. While it's not comprehensive, it gives great recipes and even lets you know which ones are suitable for freezing. I got this and "Blender Baby Foods" and feel prepared to feed my little one when he arrives. Nice shower gift for moms who are looking to do homemade baby food.
Pretty pictures, not a lot more for me July 11, 2010 Jessica E. Culp (Monticello, IL 61856) I feel like this is one of those gourmet books you look at, but don't do much with. I'm a pretty traditional eater and I doubt I'm going to cook up some fancy stuff (such as leeks) that I don't even eat to feed my baby.
Lots of Common Sense Information June 25, 2010 Reader-Shopper 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I should have looked more closely at the dimensions and number of pages listed before I purchased this because it's just the size of a typical children's book. I was expecting a larger cookbook-sized book with more information.
It's cover is well-designed and the illustrations are great, but I expected a little more substance. After reading through it, I've determined that I can just blend fruits or steamed veggies and feed them to baby. It's really that simple.
Overall, it's a nice-to-have book, but I think it's one of those things that a new parent gets and later realizes really isn't necessary.
