Product Description The infant management concepts presented in this book have found favor with over two million parents and twice as many contented babies. On Becoming Babywise brings hope to the tired and bewildered parents looking for an alternative to sleepless nights and fussy babies. The Babywise Parent Directed Feeding concept has enough structure to bring security and order to your baby's world, yet enough flexibility to give mom freedom to respond to any need at any time. It teaches parents how to lovingly guide their baby's day rather than be guided or enslaved to the infant's unknown needs. The information contained within On Becoming Babywise is loaded with success. Comprehensive breast-feeding follow-up surveys spanning three countries, of mothers using the PDF method verify that as a result of the PDF concepts, 88% breast-feed, compared to the national average of only 54% (from the National Center for Health Statistics). Of these breast-feeding mothers, 80% of them breast-feed exclusively without a formula complement. And while 70% of our mothers are still breast-feeding after six months, the national average encourage to follow demand feeding without any guidelines is only 20%. The mean average time of breast-feeding for PDF moms is 33 1/2 weeks, well above the national average. Over 50% of PDF mothers extend their breast-feeding toward and well into the first year. Added to these statistics is another critical factor. The average breast-fed PDF baby sleeps continuously through night seven to eight hours between weeks seven and nine. Healthy sleep in infants is analogous to healthy growth and development. Find out for yourself why a world of parents and pediatricians utilize the concepts found in On Becoming Babywise.

Must have for Christian parents July 28, 2010 Tiffany (Walker, LA, US) I know there are ALOT!!! of negative things said about BABYWISE out there. HOWEVER, most of them are not true. It seems that people have missed read and misapplied the principles in this book...OR have never read it themselves and just go by what others have said. This book truly helped my husband and I put the right focus on our son and now he will sleep when he needs to and cries A WHOLE LOT LESS!!! YAY!!! Make sure to check out websites such as [...] before drawing conclusions on this book. No, this book does not promote attachment parenting. As a Christian, I agree with them. For a clearer understanding of why, read some of John Rosemond's books (ie. Parenting by the Book). This book saved my sanity.
The only "con" I have is that the book is a bit technical. You may want to read some of the Baby Whisperer's books. Although, I am still working on reading these and not sure how her books deal with attachment parenting. However, her method of routine is basically the same.
Made my baby sleep July 19, 2010 Katie Godfrey (East Coast) I followed a number of recommendations from this book and my baby was sleeping through the night by 2 months. Its a god-send.
Love this book! July 10, 2010 Mary I absolutely love the Babywise method. My daughter is now fourteen weeks old and is sleeping ten hours a night. I have read quite a few reviews of this book that claim the book is too controlling and the method is too rigid. I find this laughable because the book is based on "flexible scheduling." The whole concept of the book is that you use the method as a guideline and tweek it to fit your child. For instance, my daughter is a little behind the curve in terms of the feeding cycle. The book tells you to feed your child every two and a half to three hours. I'd say my daughter makes it to the two and a half hour mark about half the time and to the two hour mark the rest of the time. Still, I maintained the feed-wake-sleep pattern as the book suggested, with a shorter cycle, and it worked just fine. I will say one thing about this method that everyone should know: You have to be consistent and stick with it. It takes a couple of weeks to see the results. Don't give up! I suspect that a lot of the parents who found this method did not work for them did not keep it going through the eight week mark. Caring for a newborn is a challenge and it may seem like a huge additional load to try to put a sleeping method on top of everything you are all ready doing as a parent, but I guarantee that it is worth it. I would do it all over again in a heartbeat and I will if I ever have another child.
Dangerous Practices and Uncredentialed Author July 9, 2010 CA Strawberry Girl (Carlsbad, CA, USA) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
This book goes against all natural principles that our babies are born with and we as parents know instinctively:
Each baby is unique and has his/her own needs-- timing of eating, sleeping, and activity, as well as nutritional requirements. You cannot treat all babies the same!!!
I have twin baby girls and found that I cannot put them on the same schedule-- they each have different needs. I pay attention to their cues for food and sleep; and detect a pattern. From this, we have developed a schedule over time-- BABY DIRECTED!!! BTW, we are still breastfeeding @ 10 months. (breastfeeding on demand)
Be Smart-- not "Wise" use your brain and your parental instincts to care for your baby's needs.
Don't let a fast talking guy who has branded himself a guru (with no legitimite support)

Failure to Thrive July 6, 2010 dsurm001 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
After eight weeks of so called, "scheduled feedings" my wife's milk started to dry up with no good explanation. I asked her if she had talked to a lactation consultant and she said "no". I was shocked! She said she got all her information from this book Baby Wise. So I sat down and read it. When I finished reading it I was furious! Number one this man is a bible thumper who has no medical degree and here he is giving medical advice. Number two; he wants parents to train their newborn like an animal. Three; it is all about the parents, how not to let a newborn change your life, you liked sleeping through the night, well it doesn't have to change if you fallow Ezzo. That is his selling point, "have your baby sleeping through the night". Sounds enticing, but what he does not tell you, is the many accounts of babies who have been deemed "failure to thrive" due to his teachings. The book is cult like and his followers are brain dead, they think a preacher knows more about feeding newborns then doctors, lactation consultants and PA's. All who do not endorse the "Ezzo method." Do not read this book and become part of the cult.
