Amazon.com Review When you're pregnant, there is nothing more exciting than keeping up with the drastic changes your body undergoes on a weekly basis. In Your Pregnancy Week by Week, Glade B. Curtis, M.D. (Your Pregnancy Questions and Answers, Your Pregnancy After Thirty) has written a clear, easy to follow guidebook. Each "week" includes information on: How Big Is Your Baby?, How Big Are You?, How Your Baby Is Growing and Developing, Changes in You, How Your Actions Affect Your Baby's Development, You Should Also Know, and a Tip of the Week. With the exception of the You Should Also Know sections (which sometimes focus on rare problems and concerns), the tone of the book is informative, chatty and reassuring. An extensive, excellent glossary adds value. Your Pregnancy Week by Week seems intended to both simplify and expand on the information an inexperienced or first-time mother-to-be receives from her medical provider. It is especially ideal for very young pregnant women seeking to better understand the changes in their bodies. --Ericka Lutz

Scary! September 6, 2010 Loving my First Pregnancy As soon as I had the positive home pregnancy test, I ran out to buy a week-by-week book, and this one jumped out at me. How exciting!, I thought. This is written by a medical doctor, so should be informative and thorough!, I thought. Not so. Unfortunately, all of its positive aspects (info about nutrition and safe exercises, for example) are overshadowed by a fascination with rare diseases, disorders, and conditions. As a first time mom, this book contains alarmist messages that are absolutely the opposite of what other moms and medical professionals have shared with me. Not only does this book fail to give references for nearly all (if not all) of the research it cites, as many pregnancy books seem to, it is chock-full of every possible scary thing that could happen to your unborn child - no matter how remote the chances. The book does a great job of explaining in detail a wide range of these diseases, disorders, and conditions, but rarely cites their prevalence (how often they occur), and is thoroughly chilling to read as a pregnant woman. Pregnancy should be a time of joy, excitement, and holistic care for your changing body, not one of fear and sensationalism. Don't believe the hype - most pregnancies are totally normal (see the documentary "The Business of Being Born" for more information on deconstructing our fear-based views of pregnancy and birth). On my way to the bookstore to give another book a try...and I am completely open to recommendations! Have a happy, healthy, pregnancy, ladies.
Absolutely Ridiculous September 5, 2010 Amt233 The format of this book is insane! Completely scattered topics throughout the book make it impossible to gather the right information at the appropriate time.
Examples: Week 33, subheading "How your Baby is Growing and Developing" goes on for 3 pages about "Placental Abruption", which could happen at ANY stage of pregnancy. Nothing about the baby in week 33 is mentioned. Under Week 33 "Changes in You" it rambles on about fibroid tumors, which increase the risk of miscarriage. A little late to mention at this stage in the game, folks. "How Your Actions Affect Your Baby's Development" in week 33 is 4 pages about Hepatitis, much of which would have been helpful from day one. Things like weigh loss techniques are covered in week 28, and abusive relationships way out in week 15, so no rhyme or reason to it.
The topics are covered well, but unless you're planning on reading this book from cover to cover from day one or looking up random stuff in the Index, I highly recommend against it except for the drawings. The Mayo Clinic Guide, while too big to curl up with in bed, is much more organized and helpful.
Fantastic pregnancy book and gift August 30, 2010 JGladding Wonderful book that talks about pregnancy each week. Whats going on, pictures of what baby is looking like. Fun to read for every week of being pregnant. It also has helpful information on many other pregnancy items. This gift by far would beat What to Expect when you are expecting.
good reading August 28, 2010 SCE-AUX (Rochester, NY) bought this book on recommendation of a friend. my wife likes it better than the other very popular pregnancy info book.
Best Pregnancy Book August 20, 2010 N. Oldani This book and the others in the series are fantastic. They are not overbearing or preachy, easy to understand, and didn't send me into a hyperventilated panic after each chapter like the popular "What to Expect" series. I found them all to be very accurate and true. I now buy them for all my pregnant gals.
